We’re delighted to announce the backing of one of our clients, renewable energy specialists SGS Energy, for our An Anniversary Worth Celebrating campaign on the importance of the Health & Safety at Work Act.

SGS Energy specialises in the installation of a variety of renewable energy solutions. SGS install air source heat pumps, solar panels, battery storage solutions, energy diverters, EV charging stations and more.

As well as contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable planet, SGS Energy also pride themselves on safety. They have worked with SAMS to ensure safe working practices through under taking SSSTS/ SMSTS and UKATA asbestos awareness training with SAMS

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 brought in legislation that still applies to businesses like SGS Energy today. As well as creating safety rules for all industries—meaning new industries like renewable energy were covered—the Health and Safety at Work Act also led to rules on safe working at height, manual handling, electrical safety and other key areas.

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 are a statutory instrument under the Health and Safety at Work Act, which brought in specific rules for any work at height, with no minimum height specified. Electrical safety is covered under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994 and multiple other instruments of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

SGS Energy have been proud to champion their own high bar for site safety, and the huge difference that the Health and Safety at Work Act has made to businesses like theirs over the last 50 years. For SGS site safety is a crucial part of how the business operates:

“We at SGS take safety very seriously always investing time and resources to ensure we work to a high standard of safety.”
